FORMATION OF NEW ZEALAND VIDEO
This is an excellant video which showcases the traditional Māori belief of creation. It tells the mythologies of Maui and how he fished up the North Island and also of Aoraki and his brothers and how they became the mountains of the South Island. It would be a great video to show to students at any time, particularly if you are introducing Māori myths and stories in class.

In these videos Maria Tibble talks about how to incorporate an authentic cultural experience in your classroom. I chosen to include these videos into my website so I don't forget that culture really does matter. I need to remember that it is much more then just learning the language.
By clicking on the picture to the left a pdf will open which has unit plan ideas to under take during Matariki. The reason why I included this resource on this page and not on the resource page is because I think Matariki is an important part of the Māori culture. During future Matarikis I wish to focus on the Māori culture and language in the classroom.
